August 13, 2024
Dear Blackhawk Middle School Families,
My name is Diana Vergara and I am proud to serve the Blackhawk Middle School community as Principal. We hope you have enjoyed a wonderful summer filled with special moments with family and friends. As we prepare for the 2024-2025 school year, we are excited to share some updates and welcome you back to Blackhawk Middle School!
Also joining our staff this year is Jacquelyn Le-Mon serving as our new Assistant Principal. Ms. Le-Mon brings over 12 years of experience in middle school education having served as a teacher, team leader, curriculum coordinator, and assistant principal. We are confident that she will be a wonderful addition to our team, and we look forward to the positive impact she will have on our school community.
As we prepare to begin the school year, we have some important dates and details to share. First, to celebrate the start of the school year we will have the Back to School Bash on Tuesday, August 20 from 1:00-3:00 PM. Throughout the two-hour event, Blackhawk Middle School students will rotate by grade level through different stations where they will:
- Meet their new teachers and administrators.
- Tour the building, walk their schedules, and test their lockers.
- Socialize while enjoying a snack, music and games.
In addition, our Curriculum Night is scheduled on Thursday, September 19 from 6:30-8:00 PM. This will be a great opportunity for families to learn more about what their middle school student is learning here at Blackhawk Middle School.
Finally, we are excited to welcome back students on August 21, our first day of the school year! Students are permitted to enter the building starting at 7:30 AM for breakfast in the cafeteria, and all students will enter through the main doors (Door 1) in the morning.
Please refer to the district website for any additional information.
I am thrilled to meet our Blackhawk Middle School students and families! See you soon!
Sincerely,
Diana Vergara

Passion
I am honored and excited to join the Blackhawk Middle School community as Principal. I have over two decades of experience in education. I have served as a teacher, coach, and - most recently - as an assistant principal in Chicago for the past seven years. As a newcomer to the United States from Colombia, I overcame significant barriers to success, inspired by the teachers and mentors who guided me along the way. My journey in education has been driven by an unwavering commitment to equity and excellence for every student.
My passion for education extends beyond the classroom walls. I am deeply committed to the power of community and collaboration, and I strive to foster a culture of openness and empathy.
As a physical education teacher and coach, I have had the opportunity to see firsthand how effort, discipline, teamwork, and communication contribute to achieving goals. These experiences have shaped my passion for educating the whole child. I believe it is essential for middle school students to learn to collaborate with others, monitor their own behavior, and make responsible decisions. I am confident that by building these social-emotional skills, we will see a positive impact on academic achievement. Together, we can ensure our students are prepared for college, career, and lifelong learning.

Passion
After over a decade of being an educator, I have developed a passion for social/emotional learning and development, student academic achievement and post secondary readiness. This passion was developed after working and supporting students and families that have experienced a significant level of trauma in their lives. I recognize that trauma infiltrates and leaves an indelible impression upon everyone. This significantly affects students who have yet to develop tools, skills and or have the mental aptitude to process how these experiences are affecting their here and now and their futures. My goal as a school leader is to inform/educate all stakeholders at Blackhawk Middle School as to how they play a role in developing and leading our students in the midst of a crisis response and how to be proactive in care when traumatic events unfold. Overall, it is my passion to impress upon all invested stakeholders how we can best support individual students living with and experiencing trauma and how we can be instrumental leaders in creating and maintaining a safe, supportive and conducive trauma informed/sensitive school.

Passion
I am grateful to be a part of the Bensenville community and Blackhawk Middle School team! I am eager to work with our middle school teachers and students, and I am passionate about creating engaging learning environments that value who students are as individuals. In addition, I believe that collaboration is the key to a successful learning community, and developing collaborative practices through professional learning communities (PLCs) is an important way to continue to learn from one another. Along with collaboration practices and engaging lessons, I believe in providing meaningful professional development for staff and using data-driven instruction to meet the needs of all of our middle school learners. I am looking forward to an amazing school year!

BSD2 eFlyers
BSD2 eFlyers
District 2 has gone "green" in its approach to distributing community flyers.
Rather than sending flyers home with each student via backpack mail, District and community flyers are posted on the BSD2 E-Flyers page for parents to view or print 24/7.
It is estimated that this saves our schools hundreds of hours per year spent sorting and handling the materials, not to mention the number of trees and other resources saved in producing them.
